Older husbands, whose own moms are probably grinning down upon them right now from some heavenly cloud above, must secretly hate this time of year.
Sunday is the dreaded Mother’s Day when they are expected to do duty for their children who have already flown the coop.

Fathers will have to forfeit fishing, a game of golf, make the early morning coffee, breakfast in bed… all the jobs that you, dear child, should be doing for YOUR mother!
Even worse! Later in the day, dads will probably have to relinquish the couch and TV remote too!
All YOU, children of ours, have to do is send a WhatsApp with: “Happy Mother’s Day, mom. Love you.”
Then poor old dad has to pick up the slack.
“But there is a Father’s Day too,” one can hear the kids squealing in response to this verbal spanking.
Yes, there is.
However, even then, fathers still have to give up their Sunday routines so that moms can ‘spoil THEM’ by insisting on going out to lunch.
And who pays?????
One has to sympathise with one poor husband, who shall remain nameless (OK, me), when he really thought he was being creative by buying his wife a new golf club for Mother’s Day, obviously to encourage her to take up the sport, he hoped they could play together in their golden years.
For some strange reason, the wife didn’t think it was funny… and the club now has a kink in it after connecting with his head.
There have been some pretty famous quotes about mothers, even going back to Aristotle who said: “Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.”
Then a few more from someone named ‘Anon’:
* “Working mothers are guinea pigs in a scientific experiment to show that sleep is not necessary to human life.”
* “It is never easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.”

Not funny?
OK, how’s this one from a soppy Washington Irving:
“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
Happy Mother’s Day, all moms. You can leave the dishes until Monday.
