OPINION: ‘Offers of water assistance are ignored’

Since the tanker arrived, I have notified the municipal manager and Dave Watson - without response.

DEAR Editor,-

I have been trying to assist the community with water since June 4 and contacted, among others, Dave Watson, Ugu water services general manager Lungi Cele and municipal manager DD Naidoo.

I offered to send four fire tankers from Tshwane, which have a combined pumping capability of 20 000 litres per minute, so turnaround time would be much faster.

I received one answer from DD Naidoo’s secretary saying she would mail me a form to complete and indicate costs – this never happened.

On June 10, I decided to absorb the cost of one tanker myself and had this one driven down. Car Towing Services even offered to tow the rest down at cost price.

Since the tanker arrived, I have notified the municipal manager and Dave Watson – without response.

Emergency trucks like this one were offered by Rescu-Life Africa (Pty) Ltd, but there was no response received.

I hired a heavy-duty driver and instructed him to deliver to rural communities and schools.

As mentioned, I was even told by the Ski-boat Club NOT to park the tanker there at night, so have been parking at Gecko Moon Guesthouse in Linton Road.
