OPINION: “Water remains a challenge in Ugu District”

These allegations are serious and must be investigated in order to restore services to residents.

DEAR Editor,-

The IFP in Ugu District Municipality calls on KZN COGTA MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube urgently to appoint a task team to investigate service delivery woes in the ANC-run municipality.

The mayor of the district municipality has on many occasions refused to listen and attend to complaints by residents and officials.

Earlier this month, most public services in Ugu were disrupted as municipal employees downed tools and closed up clinics, hospitals and others were severely affected.

Municipal workers took to the streets to raise their concerns with the district’s management.

Poor management, reckless decisions and lack of consultation by management were cited as some of the concerns faced by officials.

In response to the strike action by municipal officials, the ANC-run municipality allegedly appointed a contractor with very close ties to the ANC leadership in the district to supply water to drought-stricken communities.

These allegations are serious and must be investigated in order to restore services to residents.

We cannot allow the ANC to run the municipality into the ground by using funds meant for drought relief for filling pockets of cronies.
