OPINION: ‘Author’s lack of empathy is callous’

Such despicable pro-Nazi nostalgia merits an urgent visit to a psychiatrist.

DEAR Editor,-

I nearly fell off my chair when I read the letter from ‘SOS’ entitled ‘Democracy has no bearing on charity’.

ALSO READ : OPINION: ‘Democracy has no bearing on charity’

To quote: ‘During World War II, The Netherlands was occupied by Germans and I can remember that everyone always had water and lights and law and order was strictly maintained. There were no personal attacks on people – and NO democracy.’

Wow! Six million Jews were massacred along with hundreds of thousands of gay people in a war started by the Germans that cost over 20 million lives, including the lives of valiant South African soldiers.

Apparently, the writer is nostalgic for those ‘good old days’.

Since when are genocide and world war prerequisites for running water, electricity and law and order?

The author is obviously a white Christian with a sociopathic lack of empathy and should have had the guts to give his or her name.

Such despicable pro-Nazi nostalgia merits an urgent visit to a psychiatrist … along with a book on World War II.
