OPINION: ‘Thank you for the rare insight’

Each week we all read the newspaper and most would have a general idea of what goes into it.

DEAR Editor,-

How do you say a surprise ‘thank you’ to a newspaper without going through the channels of said newspaper? Well, this is our attempt with the help of some of the ‘insiders’.

Our local homeschool group had an outing to the South Coast Herald offices in Port Shepstone on Friday, August 31.

Each week we all read the newspaper and most would have a general idea of what goes into it.

What parents, and more importantly the children, were shown was certainly more than could be imagined.

The time and effort taken by all staff members to explain each section to us; how it runs; as well as a bit of history about the newspaper is truly appreciated, as is the great job the paper does – as we see it.

David Rush, Shona Alyward, Colleen Haggard and Brennan Raymond in particular gave incredible insight into the fun, complex, unending, exciting, heartbreaking, tiresome and often difficult hours on end spent to present the Herald to us each week.

We can certainly be proud of our local paper and all the staff involved.

Thank you all from the homeschool group.
