OPINION: ‘How old are our potatoes?’

It would seem that the poor old consumer has no legal rights or protection.

DEAR Editor,-

I am alarmed at the seeming disregard for the law that the potato industry has embarked on.

As a consumer, I want to know how old a potato is.

In almost all cases, this cannot be confirmed, regardless of packaging.

Recently I purchased a plastic pack that was totally devoid of details.

I challenge anyone to go to retailers and see for themselves. The potato pocket I bought was on sale at a big retailer and I suspect they are all part of the problem too.

It would seem that the poor old consumer has no legal rights or protection.

What is seemingly not understood is that the public have the paying power.

Shame on them all.
