OPINION: ‘Renewal process was a pleasant surprise’

Pensioners were singled out as ‘priority’ service and those applications were dealt with pleasantly and efficiently.

DEAR Editor,-

I recently visited the Port Shepstone Licensing Office to renew my about-to-expire driving licence, somewhat apprehensively, in view of my having read or heard of several negative accounts of their experiences from other pensioners.

I joined the short queue outside the offices at about 6.45am. Other applicants gradually appeared and after about an hour, Officer Mervin Moodley and his team handed out relevant forms and numbered tags relating to the order of arrival.

We were then ushered inside and seated in numerical order. Officer Moodley then gave detailed instructions as to the completion of forms and copies of identity documents were made for those who required them.

These procedures were carried out in an orderly manner and at all times Officer Moodley and his team were extremely courteous and polite to each of the applicants.

In our order of arrival, pensioners were singled out as ‘priority’ service and those applications were dealt with pleasantly and efficiently.

The entire process was completed in less than three hours.

In order to streamline the application process, I would suggest applicants obtain the necessary certificate from an optometrist prior to applying – it definitely does help.

My sincere thanks to Officer Moodley and his team for such great service.
