OPINION: ‘Get involved to stop offshore drilling’

Since there is less than a week to respond, we urge concerned people to urgently contact the author.

DEAR Editor,-

Following several public meetings held on the coast from Port Elizabeth to Richards Bay, people are coming together to fight for the coast and its marine life so that they remain healthy in the future.

The government has assigned Italian oil company ENI and Sasol to prospect for oil off Port Shepstone and Richards Bay.

KZN Indian Ocean Admirers have looked at the technical impact reports completed by consultants and found them deficient of critical data, sound analysis or competent project planning.

We urgently call on concerned, upstanding residents of KZN, to maintain and improve the coast’s marine life integrity by refusing to allow toxins from entering the food chain.

That is just one of the reasons – there are many more.

Since there is less than a week to respond to the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), we urge concerned people to urgently contact the author at 060 7388915 or remsmc@gmail.com.
