OPINION: ‘How do you get Ugu to respond?’

It is clear that Mr Naidoo has no control over what happens at Ugu.

DEAR Editor,-

I own an empty stand in Glenmore, for which there is an annual fee payable labelled ‘water availability’.

Ugu invoices me in October and the payment is due in November.

However, Ugu does not send invoices and for the past three years I have literally had to beg to be invoiced and if I’m lucky, it is received after two or three requests.

A letter to municipal manager DD Naidoo did not help either because he simply sent it on to a staff member who ignored it and my troubles started all over again.

It is clear that Mr Naidoo has no control over what happens at Ugu.

For the record: I wrote to DD Naidoo on November 1 this year, he forwarded my letter on the same day to someone else and, as expected, nothing happened.

I have no email address for the person he emailed, so what can I do?

In 2015, Ugu phoned me and demanded more than R16 000 for arrears and penalties for ‘water availability’.

I paid it, but must still ask: Ugu has my phone number, so why did they wait such a long time before contacting me?
