My driver’s licence was due to be renewed in October last year and due to bad publicity about the office in Port Shepstone I decided to go to Umzinto Instead.
In order to allow sufficient time for processing, I went there on July 18.

After five months of waiting to receive my licence, I read an article in the South Coast Herald advising that if you send your ID number to 33204, you would be informed of the status.
This I did and received a reply that there was no application attached to my ID number.
After many tries, I got through to the Umzinto Testing Centre and was told not to worry and just ignore the reply.
I still wanted to know the status of my application, so I asked to be transferred to someone who could help me.
After being transferred numerous times, I eventually spoke to someone who took my number and promised to call me back.
He did not do so immediately, but the following day I got a call from a woman who said my application had been lost.
I had difficulty understanding exactly what she was saying, but understood that I would have to go back to Umzinto.
I live in Margate Retirement Village, which is about 80km from Umzinto.
I am a pensioner and have to fork out money for petrol and toll fees, never mind the inconvenience.
The incompetence of the testing centre is intolerable and I am furious with this whole fiasco.
