OPINION: ‘Why no crime reports for the festive season?’

Not a single report on the taxis, the number of day trippers or how the very few SAP members were unable to control the throng.

DEAR Editor,-

Margate is a South Coast town that endeavors to attract holidaymakers over the December holidays, but the ‘day trippers’ who arrive in taxis en masse totally defeat the efforts of officials.

I was very surprised that the South Coast Herald issue dated January 4 did not have a single picture of the numerous taxis parked illegally throughout Margate.

The occupants slept inside the taxis or any outside space they could find.

Many temporary wire barriers erected by the municipality helped, but were eventually chucked aside at the end.

And not a single report on the number of taxis, the number of day trippers or the way the very few SAPS members were unable to control the throng.

There were also no reports on crime figures between Christmas and New Year.

What a disappointing issue – was every staff member on leave? A helicopter flew over and planes landed?
