Sunday, February 17: Valentine’s Day steam train ride and picnic trip. The train ride is three hours long departing from Creighton station at 10am and on the return leg stopping for an hour and a half (depending on the weather) alongside the Ngangwane River. Bring along family and friends (and the Valentine) for an awesome day out in the fresh country air. The train will return to Creighton Station by 3pm. Pennington Conservancy has warned that there is a newly found invader plant – the South American sponge (Limnobium laevigatum).
The plant is similar to the water hyacinth, but with smaller and rounder leaves which initially lie flat and elongate as the plants mature.
Negative impacts of this plant are biodiversity, fishing, water transport and hydro-electricity (generation). The plant also provides habitats for disease-carrying organisms.
Whilst we are on the “who is responsible” page – who is responsible for cutting the overgrown vegetation of the verges in Pennington? Can this be attended to soon as the weeds are as high as an elephants eye?
