OPINION: ‘Scavenging exacerbates the problem’

Perhaps collecting bags twice a week will help.

DEAR Editor,-

With regards to the article ‘Hibberdene needs help’ (SCH February 1), the reason some Hibberdene residents drop their garbage bags in town is because there are people who rummage through the bags to collect tins and other items on Monday mornings.

Sometimes they even take the bags onto empty lots, empty them and just leave it like that for others to clean up.

They also never reseal bags and boxes, containers, paper and other garbage lies strewn on roads.

Dogs and monkeys also add to the problem.

Perhaps collecting bags twice a week will help because some bags start stinking and dogs tear them open.

In town, they collect at least four to five times a week.
