OPINION: ‘Community called to action’

Your complaints need not be limited to your home area, but could also include areas of Umdoni which might affect you, including beach facilities, central business district sidewalks and public parks.

DEAR Editor:

The Umdoni Action Group has created a simple webpage which leads to a two-minute survey; the purpose of which is to accumulate a list of complaints (such as unmaintained verges and common areas; non-functioning streetlights; potholes; and disintegrating roads) which the Umdoni Municipality is not attending to.

Your complaints need not be limited to your home area, but could also include areas of Umdoni which might affect you, including beach facilities, central business district sidewalks and public parks.

Your responses will be collated in a matrix and presented to Umdoni Municipality, which will then be given a time limit within which to rectify the items highlighted, as further explained in the survey.

The survey ends with a question as to whether or not you would consider a partial or total withholding of your rate payments, should Umdoni Municipality continue to fail its ratepayers.

The two-minute survey can be found here

Even if you have emailed your complaints directly to UM at customerservices@umdoni.gov.za you should still record your complaints in UAG’s survey, for monitoring purposes.

Should you have any questions or experience any problems in completing the survey, please email umdoni.action.group@iafrica.co.za.
