THERE has been some awesome fishing of late on the upper South Coast, with strong currents out in the deep playing their part.
There were also very big swells that ran at just over 2.5 metres.

Due to the heavy rain last Sunday, there were hardly any boats on the water and very few fishermen actually left the comfort of their homes to venture out.
In general, kayak fishermen struggled somewhat in the backline for tuna and there was hardly any shore fishing because of the sidewash currents.
One of the top catches for the weekend was produced by the chairman of the Park Rynie Ski-boat Club, Kevin Fourie, who caught a beautiful 19.7kg mussel cracker.
Other catches of note included a yellowbelly rock cod, tuna and sada sada.
During the past few weeks, tuna have been the most popular offshore catches.
Rock and surf fishermen seem to have had success with catches such as honeycombs.
The honeycomb grouper fish has a long dorsal fin with eleven spines.
Its body colour ranges from a light yellow to brown and is covered in small brown hexagons with pale coloured spaces inbetween, much like a honeycomb.
COMPETITIONS
A grand competition will be taking place on March 23 and 24, as part of the 2019 Umhlanga Festival, for the biggest game fish caught on any craft.
This includes on paddle skis, jet skis and boats. There are great prizes and cash to be won.

For the freshwater anglers, the popular annual Paddock Fishing Competition is due to take place at 30 fully stocked dams from March 29 to 31.
