OPINION: ‘Inconsiderate destruction must stop’

All vegetation up to the beach was removed and the area is being filled with sand to raise the property.

DEAR Editor,-

I have been fishing the stretch of coast in Oslo beach (Millionaire’s mile) for years and have seen how the vegetation and dunes have suffered over the years with landowners cutting away bush etcetera.

With this in mind, I would like to highlight the latest total disregard for conservation in the area since there is a new property being built on the beachfront .

I have no idea if any environmental inspector has been to this site or whether an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been done?

The owner/contractor has removed all vegetation up to the beach and has now started to fill the section with sand to raise the property – I can only guess to have a better view.

One can only assume that this is being done out of a lack of knowledge about the sensitivity of these coastal areas and the reason why there are conservatories in place.

I’ve tried to get the local council involved to no avail.
