OPINION: ‘Local organisation steps up’

They launched the borehole project with the Dutch Reformed Church in Margate to step in in times of water shortages.

DEAR Editor,-

During the latest water crisis on the South Coast, AfriForum’s Margate branch, along with the Dutch Reformed Church Margate, used their borehole project to supply water to the community.

This follows after Ugu District Municipality once again neglected their duties by leaving the town without water for more than five days.

Already in 2018, AfriForum realised that the municipality would continue deteriorating and that the organisation therefore had to act proactively.

They launched the borehole project with the Dutch Reformed Church in Margate to step in in times of water shortages.

AfriForum Margate are glad that they could, thanks to the borehole, assist the community in this situation.

“Daily we see the capture of essential state property and infrastructure increasing, therefore it is extremely important for us to get our own emergency measures in place. We invite the community to become part of the solution and support this project.” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.
