OPINION: ‘The scourge of drugs’

May God bless you all for helping us to be God's hands in our community.

DEAR Editor:

Once again we are overjoyed with the donations we have received for our less privileged in the community.

A big thank you to Imran Alli, Robin, Jimmy and Miranda, Jean Palmer, Phume, Pastor Sathie, Peter Tanner, Maureen Coetser, Mrs Hammond, Tina Pillay, Betty Round, Gaylene, Gitta Webb, Barbara, Marijke, Johnny and Deirdre Hutt and those who drop off items at home or the Mail newspaper. May God bless you all for helping us to be God’s hands in our community.

Recently we put an article in the newspapers about drug abuse. I was shocked at the amount of response we received. We had parents of drug addicts phone to ask for help for their children and there were even some drug addicts who called and said they were down and out on the street due to their drug habit and required help.

This is a step in the right direction. For as soon as they can admit they have a problem, they can get help. The sad thing is that most cannot afford drug rehabilitation as it is just too costly. Hopefully, we have pointed people in the right direction.

Once again we would like to stress the effects of drugs on families and our community. Drug abuse is prevalent all around us even in our little town, it’s a massive problem. Don’t think it can’t happen to your family – it can happen to anyone.

Joanne’s Angel’s is visiting Alex Park Old Age Home within the next two weeks to bring joy to our special oldies for Easter.

Once again we need to stress that Joannes Angels is not part of Angel’s Care in Sezela. We previously assisted them but no longer do so do. The community is asked not to phone us  when looking for Angel’s Care in Sezela.

In conclusion, we wish Juan Venter of the Mail newspaper a wonderful and well deserved holiday in New York.

If you would like to donate,  please contact us at 082-3377330 or 039-9760246. We are willing to collect.
