OPINION: ‘Ugu’s response changed my mind’

To my surprise, my call was answered and I was given a reference number.

DEAR Editor,-

I thought I would share my positive experience with Ugu over the recent public holiday.

Through our community chat forum there was an indication that there were water challenges and Ugu was investigating.

I saw what I thought was an underground water leak outside of Suid-Natal Primary, so I called it in on the Ugu after hours number.

To my surprise, my call was answered and I was given a reference number.

To my greater surprise I received a call two hours later from a friendly technician asking me where exactly I had seen the leak.

Then I got a call 30 minutes later from the same technician giving me an update on my call.

The man explained that it was not actually a leak but an overflow of underground water as a result of the previous week’s crazy weather.

I apologised rather sheepishly, but the tech assured me I had done the right thing and that Ugu was thankful I had at least reported it.

Seriously, I must admit I too have viewed Ugu in a negative light in the past and this experience had me questioning if some of my previous ideas of Ugu was not in part due to my own negative cynicism that can filter through at times.

Just a reminder to self that as our government is called to serve, so am I – and I can only change me.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
