There’s a big old wall across the road from our offices in Port Shepstone.
It forms the rear or back wall of the local shopping centre, right near the KFC, and is a great place to pee for those too lazy or broke to use the mall toilets.

The modus operandi of the public pee-er is almost exactly the same.
They nip around the side of the wall and take a quick (slightly guilty) look around.
Then they wriggle around like a golfer settling into his pre-shot routine, bit of a foot shuffle, butt waggle, and then they fire away.
When done, there’s more quick peeking, over each shoulder, before zipping up and heading out, like nothing had happened.
What they don’t realise is there is an office full of staff (mostly women) who, if they choose, can watch the whole thing.
This made me think of our fearless leaders in government, especially the corrupt and brazenly disrespectful ones.
Media hype can skew matters when it comes to knowing the exact truth or trustworthiness of someone’s character.
What is certain is that while they think their actions – like the fellows painting the wall with their pee – are not noticed, well, they most certainly are.
While nothing may be done to correct their behaviour, their actions still leave a stain and a stench.
You could put up a big sign, saying Do Not Pee Here and it would probably not make much difference.
It might, however, serve as a warning to those on a lunch break who use this particular spot to relax and enjoy the Colonel’s finest cuisine.

Hopefully, our new government, under president Cyril Ramaphosa, will go about doing things the right way.
Otherwise, ultimately, what they continue to do illegally that they think is not noticed, will be broadcast in broad daylight.
And the brick wall they may find staring back at them could be those of a prison cell wall.
