DEAR Editor,-
What are the regulations with regards to microlights – those airborne machines that on clear wind-free days fly along our coast with little regard for anyone apart from their own ownership of non-terrestrial, above-ground space?
Noisily, arrogantly and sometimes buzzing meters above beachgoers, causing awe, yes – however disruption as well.

Though the real question is, what does the flyer do when the machine fails during this show of power and supremacy?
Margate’s ‘golden mile’ beach is often heavily populated with tourists and should one these ‘power and awe machines’ fail due to a freak wind gust or a mechanical fault, or – worst case, crash, who is to blame?
The lack of (‘nanny state’) regulation or is it self-regulation?
Enough, you wealthy masters of the universe – fly over the sea not the beach please, and far away over the sea.
I, and possibly many other beachgoers, do not want noisy fuel-driven buzzards arrogantly dive-bombing our shores and certainly do not need the additional risk.
Self regulate and safe flying.
