Taxis are a part of our infrastructure because our government cannot provide required public transportation services (not to mention basic services).
So one has to accept the erratic stop-start driving, weaving, overtaking and pushing in of those ubiquitous white minibuses while driving.

While some of us are able to purchase our own mobility, most are not and our economy depends on a transportation system because workers need to commute to work.
Be that as it may, there are instances where this system becomes counter-productive.
In Margate there is one particular junction with fast food restaurants, the Margate Hotel and restaurants and clubs around the corner.
However tourists who want to frequent these central establishments have a parking issue as our taxi fraternity have decided that this is not a public parking place, but a standby taxi rank.
Fair enough – if you are a taxi driver.
This leads to tourists (and locals) rather avoiding these establishments because of parking constraints, as well as being daunted by groups of taxi drivers congregating in the area.
And some of these men are cheeky (to put it mildly) when women pass by.
Ideally, the council would identify a rank for these hard-working individuals, but I doubt councillors have this as a priority.
And, ideally the police should move them on, yet after many calls from both the public and establishment proprietors – no joy.
Most, if not all, of these taxis are on a ‘call out’ basis and there is space to find parking elsewhere.
Come on councillors, taxi unions and residents, let us solve this.
It’s easy enough – designate a dedicated taxi parking area close to the hub and manage the same efficiently and effectively.
