Potholes must rank with water woes as two of the biggest bugbears on the South Coast.
While ratepayers can complain to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality about the state of the roads in their suburbs, they are stymied when it comes to provincial and national ones.

Our coastal road from Hibberdene to Ramsgate is in a terrible condition – made even worse by the April floods.
The blocked entrance into Margate at the crossroads traffic lights is a nightmare, as is the huge chunk of missing road in Manaba.
But even more disturbing is the state of the bridges.
With missing or even non-existent railings, they are dangerous to both motorists and pedestrians.
It will be two years next month since a car crashed through the barriers across the Little Billy River in Ramsgate – and it is still not repaired.
And who knows when last the bridges were painted? They look grubby.
There have been many beach clean up initiatives, maybe it is time for a major bridge sprucing-up drive.
Please can local politicians put pressure on the Roads Department to fix ours – urgently.
