OPINION: ‘Wife pleads for help for husband’

Riaan is not responding to the treatment he is currently receiving.

I am reaching out for help as I have no idea where to turn next.

My husband Riaan Bolton has been ill for some time now.

Unfortunately, we have no private medical aid as it’s just beyond our reach.

I am desperate to raise funds for my husband as we are losing the battle at government hospitals.

Riaan has been ill for more than five years and during this time he has lost a substantial amount of weight.

We have been told he can go into liver failure at any given time.

Riaan has been attending appointments at Inkosi Albert Luthuli, but his body has not responded to the treatment.

For two years they have sent him home with medication that just doesn’t work. Surely something more can be done?

A friend of ours who had the same condition recovered with the right treatment.

My husband is a boilermaker by trade.

Every day is a challenge for him to function as his hands and feet have started to swell up, making it impossible for him to continue working.

He is the sole provider for the family and loses his salary each time he is admitted to hospital. Essentially we are destitute as we have now run out of time and I am seeking assistance to help get us back on our feet.
