GREENFINGERS Garden Club members were welcomed to the August meeting by chairman, Caroline van Hilton.
Caroline started off by giving some valuable tips for our gardens.
First of all it was about lawns that need a bit of attention for the coming summer.

The wind and lack of rain have burnt the grass and not being able to water much hasn’t helped.
Scarify first to get rid of the dead runners and old grass then use a fork or spiked roller to make holes in the lawn, before dressing with LAN which must be well watered in.
Luckily we have just had a nice bit of rain.
Give shrubs a dressing of 232 spread over the root area, cover with mulch and water in well.
If you haven’t finished pruning do it now, cutting out old and dead wood, which also helps keep the plants in shape.
Re-pot and feed pot plants.
Clear out old annuals and stake those vulnerable plants in for wind protection.
We wandered round hostess Chris Makepeace’s garden.
She has some beautiful orchids growing in pots, really lovely and so perfect.
We discovered some very different ornaments tucked away in corners and some pretty shrubs.
Thank you, Chris, for having us visit.

September’s meeting will be held at Relton Hall in Pennington on the 19th and the talk and demonstration is about training puppies to be guide dogs.
It promises to be a very interesting meeting and everyone is welcome.
We don’t need to take chairs. Hope to see you all there.
