In September the Department of Health offered free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations to all grade 4 girls in public schools in the area at their place of learning.

This vaccination helps prevent cervical cancer and is recommended by the World Health Organisation.
It was not offered to girls in private schools, whose parents have to pay at least R2 000 and organise it themselves if they want the HPV vaccinations.
