OPINION: ‘Is desalination the solution to our ongoing water problems?’

Certain areas are still without water.

DEAR Editor;

There is no doubt that the South Coast has been exposed to a severe lack of water infrastructure maintenance over the years, leading, as we all know, to burst pipes, reservoir water shortages and more.

Once again, criminal activity has targeted precious water storage, pipes, valves and containers, without thought or care of human suffering to all.

Caught, punished? Not a word!

A statement issued by Ugu branded those who had been dismissed.

However, many rumours and opinions fly around as to whom is responsible and why.

Much of the region has been without water for days, weeks, even months.

Some are lucky enough to be re-connected, others not.

Most recently (and similar to 2017/2018), Umzumbe lost water from November 20 to December 7 – a total of 18 days.

Responses from management teams, who previously helped with such efficiency, suddenly dried up faster than biltong.

Certain areas are still without water.

One can only imagine a perfect resolution: – a desalination plant, such as those along the coastline of Lamberts Bay to Richards Bay, and financed somehow with ‘protected funds’.

The ocean on our doorstep will provide for ALL residents.

Until that millionaire funder comes along, we live in hope that someone at Ugu can assist with this complaint.
