DEAR Editor;
Words fail me in describing the great loss to our region, and beyond, on hearing about the death of Imraan Mahomed (Gift of the Givers).
He was a sincere and true son of the soil, dedicated to saving lives and serving humanity.
I recall, in the early days, while heading Practical Ministries, and dealing with tribal and factional violence, many of these warring factions took refuge at the business premises known as Dumakude (place of refuge).
The police in those days often remonstrated with my team members and Imraan’s father about how dangerous it was that we were harbouring criminals.
I remember how strongly Imraan and his father, with their hands lifted in the air, asked those challenging us: “Where must we send them?”
As a community worker, Imraan’s passion never died, in spite of some tragic events in his own family.
His efforts of performing volunteer work on behalf of Gift of the Givers was indeed a remarkable, and his efforts in bringing people of all religions together to do God’s work noteworthy.
Over time, our journey took different directions and I lost contact with the family.
I pay this tribute with deep sadness and I know, without a doubt in my mind, that the doors of heaven are wide open for the family and for Imraan.
They have earned their just reward.
