OPINION: ‘Farewell councillor Kenny’

His work with the St Vincent de Paul Society is testament to his caring spirit and empathy with the less fortunate.

DEAR Editor;

Earlier in March, we said a formal farewell to our long-time friend and colleague, Councillor Kenny Armugam.

Kenny joined the Democratic Alliance in 2009, after a long period of supporting the ANC.

His disenchantment with the growing corruption and poor governance from the organisation led him to seek a political home that matched his values in life.

Kenny proved invaluable in the 2011 campaign and won the ward 10 seat.

He returned in 2016 as a PR councillor. He has retired from political life to enjoy a less stressful time in his senior years.

We will remember him as a dedicated community driven individual, with a rare compassion for folks who face the realities of poverty.

His work with the St Vincent de Paul Society is testament to his caring spirit and empathy with the less fortunate. As a former teacher of many residents in our villages he is well known and respected for his caring nature.

We will miss him in our caucus team, but the relationship continues as all good friendships do.

We welcome onto the team our long-term activist and friend, Saleem Mohamed. Saleem has fought many elections with us and is a son of Umzinto.

Born, schooled and raised there he is well acquainted with the issues in the area and the people who live there.

We are confident that he has the dedication and maturity to represent Umzinto residents with courage and perseverance.

Democratic Alliance Caucus Leader: Umdoni
