OPINION: ‘Crowned eagle takes cats’

At first, my daughter thought a snake was taking them on the smallholding when she discovered that, one by one, the cats went missing.

DEAR Editor;

A crowned eagle took five of our daughter’s rescued cats on the smallholding she bought in Banners Rest. They lived in the bananas and with the help of Dr Dave Watson they were all caught and spayed or neutered.

At first, my daughter thought a snake was taking them on the smallholding when she discovered that, one by one, the cats went missing.

That was until she saw the crowned eagle pair with their juvenile sitting in a tree and her cat with deep holes above his eyes, sitting on the veranda.

Dr Watson said the holes were inflicted by the talons of the eagle. Luckily the eagles moved on later.

Talking about ‘Dogs have right to say NO’, a serious inspection should be done on people keeping hunting dogs. The dogs get beaten into submission, are walking skeletons because they are being starved – apparently they hunt better when they are hungry – and get thrown away when they don’t have the strength anymore to hunt for their masters.

Whenever I see these ‘skeleton’ dogs following their masters, with bowed heads, I cry. Please, Mr President, you have the strength to give animals more rights.
