DEAR Editor;
Just an observation. I don’t get out much but today (June 24) I had the opportunity to visit the Southcoast Mall.
So sad to see all the trees and shrubs in and around the car park looking so neglected.
The ‘hedges’ have all been trimmed but, at a guess, I would say they are all suffering from a type of ‘sooty mould’ – a mould that grows on secretions left by aphids – a condition that can be easily treated.

Response from Southcoast Mall:
We appreciate the customer’s opinion that the trees around the Southcoast Mall appear neglected, we can assure you that we are aware of the browning of the leaves/rust, and this condition is treated regularly.
On some trees we note the presence of psylla which causes the leaves to turn yellow.
Psylla are similar in size to an aphid and have transparent wings. This is not a serious condition and only requires treatment if an infestation is present. We value such feedback from our customers, and they are always welcome to contact the centre manager directly for issues that concern them.
