OPINION: ‘Licence renewal joy despite low expectations’

I decided, last Wednesday at 11am, on the total off chance, to risk going to renew my driving licence at the Port Shepstone Licencing Department.

DEAR Editor;

I have a happy tale to tell about the dreaded driving licence renewal process.

I decided, last Wednesday at 11am, on the total off chance, to risk going to renew my driving licence at the Port Shepstone Licencing Department.

I approached with a heavy heart expecting a) huge queues and b) to be turned away.

Neither happened. The office was practically empty, with one cheerful member of staff shouting “I’m looking for customers!”

The staff were happy and were very strict in sticking to Covid rules. No ‘touchy touchy’, I was happily told.

The whole process took exactly 30 minutes.

What a fantastic, totally unexpected, easy experience.

The Department has had such bad press but today has totally restored my faith in them and so much more.
