OPINION: ‘Residents face ‘no water’ for a month’

I have asked for area specific updates from Ugu District Municipality during this period, and have been met with little or no success.

DEAR Editor;

No water for more than 30 days… this is what residents of Protea Park, Pelican Road, Albersville and New Bolton Road in Umtentweni have endured.

A total of 250 houses have been affected.

As a ward councillor, I am at my wits’ ends about the situation, and want to know why? Why is there no water?

I have asked for area specific updates from Ugu District Municipality during this period, and have been met with little or no success.

I have also received many excuses as to why taps are dry – from an electrical burn out, vandalism of the flat valve to loadshedding.

To top it off, there have been no water tankers to the area.

The list of excuses is endless and people can’t be ignored. This is a big district municipality, surely tankers can be brought in to supply water to residents.
