OPINION: ‘Former resident makes trip to visit barge’

The large property behind Spillers Wharf was owned jointly by her dad and mine.

DEAR Editor;

Five Pillay cousins born in Port Shepstone took a trip down memory lane.

Our main purpose was to visit the barge.

Mrs Chetty from Durban wanted to see it for herself.

The large property behind Spillers Wharf was owned jointly by her dad and mine.

As a young girl, she saw the barges daily.

Mrs Chetty was emotional. She could not believe that after so many years, it looked so good.

She was able to touch it.

For her it was like meeting an old friend again.

All she said was, “You cannot put a tough girl down.”

Next year we are going to be 80 years old.

The two of us are going to celebrate and pop a bottle of champagne on the Mzimkhulu River with the other dame.
