DEAR Editor;
I live in Marina Beach. On September 20, Ugu District Municipality brought a huge excavator and totally destroyed our driveway, which runs along an embankment to join the road.
Instead of digging from the bottom, they worked from the road and then drove into our driveway.
It has now been some seven weeks that my car has been trapped in the garage.
Luckily, we were able to remove my partner’s car which is parked in a nearby neighbour’s garage.
There needs to be urgent investigation into how Ugu operates and the waste of taxpayers’ money.
This was Ugu’s third attempt to attend to burst water pipes.
Twice they destroyed my neighbour’s driveway and they had to pay contractors to repair and re-tar, and now we have been the victim of Ugu’s ineptitude.
The Christmas season is just around the corner and we are expecting family, and there is nowhere for them to park.
It is believed they are in the process only now of appointing a contractor and all the necessary authorisation procedures, which as far as we are concerned should have been attended to on an urgent basis the minute this destruction took place.
We were cut off from electricity for three-and-a-half-days the first week and a couple of days the following week.
We had no water for three weeks and thereafter a temporary pipeline was installed. It is anticipated that complete repairs will take place only well into the next year.
