OPINION: ‘Roadworks on R61 are an absolute disaster’

I don’t know why this road is being redone as our suburb and rural roads are in an atrocious condition, it must be more cousins, uncles or jobs for families as this little venture is tendered for millions.

DEAR Editor;

The roadworks on the lower South Coast (R61) are a ‘car killer’.

A perfectly good road has been torn up and ineffectively being redone. If you compare the old section to the new, it is an absolute disaster causing so many accidents as the contractors do not know what they are doing, this is not only my opinion.

The so-called new section is uneven and pitted, the tar they are using is a mystery. The new cat’s eyes are in wrong places, sometimes in the middle of a section, for what reason?

There are loose stones which are knocking not only the undercarriage and wheel area of cars but every time a car passes, one gets a shower of stone chips, doing damage to bodywork.

I don’t know why this road is being redone as our suburb and rural roads are in an atrocious condition, it must be more cousins, uncles or jobs for families as this little venture is tendered for millions.

The barricades are always in the wrong places causing more danger. When ones need to turn right, one cannot see more than two oncoming cars on a highway, it is very dangerous. I don’t think these people have a clue as to what they are doing .

We have already had a taxi uprising at Nzimakwe regarding this issue but they are still going forward with it. I would like all and sundry to claim from these incompetent people for repairs and wheel alignment to cars, etc.

Also, there seems to be no supervision.
