OPINION: Why, in desperation, why?
It's not good enough to merely accept the turmoil around, say two writers.
We stand in queues to vote, why? When is the government of South Africa going to wake up?
Every institution which calls themselves a government department is corrupt.
Myself, my husband and my children grew up in an era where we may have battled but we were given opportunities to survive and we did not have unemployment etc. like we have now.
I have come to the realisation that we as South Africans are not seen as human beings, but as numbers – tax numbers, account numbers – merely accepting the turmoil around us.

The parliament is a joke. They spend more time arguing than actually dealing with the problems people are facing.
I have some questions, which with all sincerity, I can guarantee there will be no answers.
1. Why not do a vote of no confidence, and have an election that is fair and audited independently?
2. What happens to all South Africans, post Covid, who are reliant on oxygen or other forms of assistance?
3. Does anyone in a position of authority not feel embarrassed when schools and hospitals have to rely on Roto water tanks?
What about when an old person has to carry water, just to be able to sustain some form of cleanliness? What about the disabled, or
do they not count?
What about when a child has to try to do homework in candlelight, or cannot maintain a normal routine because supper is not ready at the usual time, or they cannot have the dignity of a bath before bed?
4. Since when is an employee of the government allowed to have a ‘legal’ strike, and burn and loot other people’s property?
They should all be fired and allow people who genuinely want to work the opportunity to earn an income for their families.
5. When is anyone in parliament going to stand up for the people, and stop boosting their own egos?
6. Should I be proud to be a citizen of South Africa? At the moment I am not.
7. How many businesses have to go under before something gets done? Does government realise it’s breaking the economy?
Do you realise you have blood on your hands? Each time a person has an accident due to load-shedding, incompetence in maintaining the roads, unhygienic conditions, yes, you are responsible.
The same people who think they know how to run a country, but spend their time arguing about who can shout the loudest.
9. People are merely trying to survive, and if we think of placing solar panels on our homes, you want to tax us? Please show me your rights as to when you bought the sun.
10. How can our own president be a billionaire, but do nothing for his people?
Enough is enough. Stop running our country into the ground, and let South Africans live a dignified life.
