Tuning in: United community saves the day after rock fall

Pennington Community Watch (PCW) received a phone call about a rock fall in the rain on the R102, on a blind corner of the northbound lane before the Umzinto River bridge last Sunday.
A boulder too large to be moved manually had caused a dangerous situation.
Although PCW members pushed it with a 4×4 and cleared the lane slightly, it remained a danger to vehicles.
Paul Tedder a committee member of the recently formed Tidy Towns was contacted to assist with a TLB. At that time of night, it was difficult for Tedder to get an operator for the TLB, but he managed to do it.
The TLB was used to move the boulder. “A big thank you to all who assisted, it is amazing what a united community can achieve,” said Steve Leech.
Sean Duncan is the new site manager at the Astron Halfway Malanda fuel site. Sean was in the hospitality industry for 18 years which took him to Ulundi, Durban, Ixopo and Harrismith.
He was then introduced to the fuel industry in Qwa-Qwa. While there the fuel station was nominated number one in Africa and 10th in the world. He then moved to other stations before joining Astron Fresh Stop Halfway Toyota.
He has been in the fuel industry for 15 years. Sean strongly believes in building relationships with those who he comes into contact with. His motto in life is respect, communication and trust. He is happy to make his home in Umkomaas for now and into the future.
At a special general meeting for Pennington Conservancy held last Saturday, these committee members accepted their nominations: Billy Pritchard, Linda Stead, Marcel Verleur, Mary McKenzie, Mike Lillyman, Simon Boyle and Viv Sandwith.
The first committee meeting will be held soon. The chairperson, secretary and treasurer will be elected.
