OPINION: Eye surgery a breeze, thanks to caring staff

I write this letter to you to express immense gratitude to the staff of Murchison District hospital.

My 79-year-old mother has been suffering from eye cataracts for a number of years.

Not being able to afford an operation via a private hospital, she had to travel from the Free State to the South Coast to find a solution.

After a few visits to Gamalakhe Clinic in March, she was referred to Murchison and placed on a waiting list.

I was apprehensive that we would be successful, but I was later informed that there were a large number of other patients who were also in need of surgery due to the Covid pandemic.

Unfortunately, we missed a surgery opportunity in June.

However, the staff were extremely accommodating and placed her on the list for August operations.

Her surgery was successfully completed on August 12 and the procedure was quick and efficient.

The staff were extremely helpful and patient and we returned home on the same day.

My mother suffers from heart failure and I was filled with trepidation.

She was treated with the utmost care and is recovering well.

I would like to thank the staff and doctors of the Murchison Eye Clinic for their help and kindness and to the optometrist for the wonderful experience.
