OPINION: Mercy – a poem about getting injured

So many of my friends and family are tumbling about and getting injured (myself included) that I felt that I should write a cheerful poem on the subject. I've named it Mercy.

Mercy me my dear,
The postman captured my ear!
“Have you heard, he said,
Mrs MacAlister fell out of bed?
She tripped upon the sheet,
All tangled around her feet.
With a thump she tipped over in a heap
And the poor dear began to weep.
Oh why oh why do I fall so much,
When nary do I tipple touch?
I don’t understand how come
My balance is like a sailor full of rum”.
“I spoke to doctor Grouch
Who placed me on his couch.
Now tell me true my dear
Is your eye sight crystal clear?
Yes doctor dear.
No problems there to fear
Something else is making me fall
And I am really not happy at all!
Doctor am I ill?
Do I need a pill?
Something to help me stand
And not fear that I am on shifting sand?
The doctor fell to one knee.
Dearest Mrs McAlister will you marry me?
I will hold you tight
And ease your rocky plight.
Together we will walk,
We will walk and talk.
And should you feel that you might fall,
I will be at your beck and call
To pick you up once more,
For today, tomorrow and for evermore.
