OPINION: Land matters… and what if?
I presume many South Africans do know that there was an immigration of peoples from the north into this area south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
I hear that a name change is being requested for Cape Town International airport.
This proposal is to remember Krotoa, a young ‘indigenous’ female who lived at the time of the colonisation of the southern tip of Africa by the Dutch in 1652.
This is always heralded as the doomsday for the people who inhabited this part of Africa, because colonisation by this more advanced culture brought far reaching social domination of the less culturally and industrially developed African tribes.
Much as this arrival by sea of these white European foreigners has developed into a political football, what if these foreigners had been black Africans from lands near the Horn of Africa?
What would the call be now in this land of ours, about land matters?
A last thought. I presume many South Africans do know that there was an immigration of peoples from the north into this area south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Be assured, these arriving peoples would have wanted land on which to settle and would have chased away any local tribes before them, killing the men and absorbing the women into their ranks.
No kindness and gentle fellowship here, just divide and conquer.
