OPINION: Eskom needs to help Ugu keep water flowing

Apparently, one of the causes for the pumps to break is the on/off due to loadshedding.

Dear Editor:

When there is loadshedding and no water coming into a property, the electrical pumps used to pump water from a tank do not work.

So, although one might have invested in a water storage tank, the taps are dry in the building until the power comes back on again.

About a year ago there was some discussion that Ugu would contact Eskom management and request that there would be no loadshedding in the areas where their extraction points (pumps) are, as well as the water treatment plants.

Apparently, one of the causes for the pumps to break is the on/off due to loadshedding.

There are obviously a number of reasons the pumps breakdown but it would be to everyone’s advantage to remove one of the causes.
