BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning in – Ward 10 by-election to be held in November

The Ward 10 by-election takes place on Wednesday, November 30, to fill the vacancy left by Cllr Edwin Baptie’s appointment to the KZN Legislature at the end of August.
Voting stations open on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16 to register residents in Ward 10 who are either unregistered or registered to vote elsewhere. The stations will open at 08:00 and close at 17:00 on both days.
Residents should note:
St Francis Primary School voting station – for citizens residing in the area between Second Avenue (Kirsten Munsammy Road) and Rocky Bay Resort.
Pennington Library Activities Hall – for citizens residing in the area to the south of Rocky Bay Resort, including Kelso and Pennington, up to the boundary with Sezela.
Voters can also register or change their registration details on the IEC website.

Alan Cutten is the DA candidate for the Ward 10 by-election. He is a long-standing member of the DA and has worked closely with Cllr Baptie and the DA team in Umdoni in previous elections.
He is familiar with the area and will be working closely together with Cllr Baptie to continue serving the best interests of the community. All the work and effort that has gone into the past term will not be wasted. The need for infrastructure maintenance, housing at Kelso, economic growth for job creation and cleaning up the environment remains the clear focus going forward.
Road repairs have commenced. This took many years of relentless lobbying in council to get the budget to include much-needed repairs in ratepaying areas. Umdoni services have almost come to a standstill. Without a dedicated councillor to fight for your needs, it is unlikely that we will see any improvements to an already sad state of affairs.
According to Cllr Baptie, we are experiencing the collapse of many government sectors and state-owned entities. Most notable being those that provide energy, water, transport infrastructure and waste management services. The only solution is to elect into government a functional and accountable governance, with respect for the rule of law, and willing to serve its citizens.
