OPINION: Washaway repairs under way, drive with caution

An appeal is made to motorists to slow down to reduce the risk of accidents at the site.

The R102 at the Carousel Resort in Hibberdene suffered a washaway that threatened the stability of the road and was a safety risk to road users. It happened during the floods in April this year.

I immediately arranged site inspections with Department of Transport officials, to view the damages and plan for repairs. Barriers were placed at the washaway to mitigate some of the risk to road users.

Following ongoing engagements with the Department, repairs finally started on November 12 this year.

The Department confirmed that the R102 will not be closed to traffic while the repairs take place.

After the April floods.

I have also requested repairs to potholes. An appeal is made to motorists to slow down to reduce the risk of accidents at the site.
