Tuning in: Neighbourhood unites to put out house fire

Community news and events for the mid-South Coast area.

It’s the last newspaper for the month. April is almost done and dusted and much is happening this weekend.

Scottburgh will be buzzing with folk who are competing in the Sani2C – not to mention that it is a long weekend with  April 27, being Freedom Day and May 1 being Workers Day. Welcome to the holidaymakers!

Michelle Hainsworth of Pennington had a ghastly experience last Saturday night. There was a fire in the roof of her home and her grateful thanks go out to her neighbours, together with Pennington Community Watch (PCW) who helped.

Michelle thanks: Chantelle Helberg, Sean Tildesley, Roy Spooner, Ruan Lotter, Riaan Leipoldt (PCW), Wicus Bezuidenhout (PCW), Frikkie van Vrakel together with Gladiators response and the Saps.
Neighbour Angelique and her husband Ian Vinnicombe. Other neighbour, Karen Chiole and her husband Ernest Chiole. Brendan Alison who called to confirm the address, and all the others on the Whatsapp group who helped. Thanks also to Andy (Andrea Helberg) who was the first to contact PCW. Roy Spooner was contacted. PCW’s Silvano Borea was also in attendance.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to be a surge after loadshedding which affected the electrics of the geyser. An evaluation from an electrician will be conducted as soon as possible. Michelle says that if she forgot to mention anyone, it was not intentional, it was just so hectic.

Scottburgh Lions came to the rescue of Injabulo Senior Primary School recently where over 600 learners were left hungry due to the delay of service providers. Ernest Mbutho and colleagues organised meals for the learners who were overjoyed. The school thanks the Scottburgh Lions Club.
