I, as one of the fellow South Africans that is referred to frequently, in an almost a state of awe by our leader, was totally shocked and gob-smacked to hear that our beloved lowly post office is going to become an ex-post office. (I bow to Monty Python for that annotation.)
Then I got to a thinking, which for me is a luxury as the brain is set to an idle state presently.
I questioned myself with regards to the current viability of the Republic of South Africa as a going concern. In short, which of the previous management’s departments are still functioning entities? As I said, post office heading for business rescue as is the SABC.
Maybe no money to pay SABC employees at end of this month according to news reports. Post Office heading along same route to collapse. Right.
Now to transportation. Railways in total collapse and barely able to handle the little freight that they do carry, hence the huge growth of the road transportation sector, just let them avoid the potholes in our wrecked roads! Also, because of no passenger transport carrying people, the taxi industry fills this void.
If taxis had wings then the need to try and save SAA would not be a consideration.
For the South Africans in dire straights, thank goodness we have a very active, reliable, trustworthy and concerned religious organisation that does for the government what the government should be doing itself.
That is helping the citizens of this country in times of disaster and crisis.
I think that government is only too happy to drag their feet and let the givers step up. Let’s them save face, as they would ineffectually and inefficiently fall short of delivering the necessary support because of challenges! Ok.
What is still left to completely wreck? Medical facilities are wobbling along and maybe the much vaunted NHI will be the life preserver.
If government can’t handle the medical that we have now, how will they initiate and proceed with this NHI? Only police and military left now. Let’s hope they are titanium protected and can dodge the bullet.
Excuse the pun. I pray that we only fall so far and in 2024 begin to rebuild and rehabilitate. Batho Pele!
