BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning In – Young fisherman catches and releases two Giant Kingfish

Community news and events for the mid-South Coast.

With an eye on the future, the Pennington Ski Boat Club has always been hugely supportive of the younger generation, and hosted an annual Dads and Lads/Daughters Fishing Competition last weekend.

Craig Stubbs, captain of the Pennington Ski Boat Club said the contest is focused mainly on off-shore game fishing, which is the majority of anglers, preferred summer target species. The weather gods unfortunately did not smile down, however some brave anglers took to the sea and a few fish were brought to the scales.

One angler stood out, and that was young Blake Gardner, ably skippered by his dad, Gordon Gardner. Blake caught and released not one, but two beautiful Giant Kingfish, as well as weighed in a King Mackeral (Couta) of 8.5kg. With strong winds and unfavourable surf and sea conditions, this was a remarkable feat. Well done Blake.
Next up on the angling calendar is the annual Pennington Ski Boat Club Christmas competition on December 16 and 17, and with about 15 boats taking to the water, it’s going to be a competitive and festive affair. Till then, see you on the water!”

Tidy Towns Pennington is appealing to community members to help fund some important projects before, during and after the festive season. These are dredging of the tidal pool; beach litter guy/dog poo picker-upper; painting new parking lines in the car park; paint for road-markings in Pennington Drive and surrounding roads.

Please help us to keep our Pennington beaches clean, tidy and litter-free over the festive season (and every day). EFT Tidy Towns Pennington, Bank: Standard, Account Name: Tidy Towns Pennington, Branch Code 051001, Account No: 10178932483, Reference: Name/Surname.
