Holidays are almost here!
The weather has been warming up, and our beautiful part of the planet is beckoning visitors from near and far with our warm Indian Ocean, long stretches of beautiful beaches, tidal pools and the glorious green hinterland – how blessed are we who call this home?
This is a great time to showcase ourselves within our suburbs, in the towns and along the routes that will get busier as we approach the end of the year.
It’s a good time for a fresh coat of paint, clearing away rubbish and garden refuse (turn it into compost, and you won’t have to buy any). This is such a simple and obvious win for everyone, cost-effective and great for your garden.
The Green Net biodiversity calendar, now in its 3rd edition, is a very useful tool to help you choose beautiful indigenous plants for your garden and help you identify the problem plants that may need to be removed. Our lush vegetation is one of the things most visitors from upcountry admire, and we are blessed with a climate that allows most plants to thrive. We all need to make better friends with the plants in our own environments to ensure that we are looking after our ecosystems in the best possible way.
Each month, a wonderful ‘Indigenous Gem’ is highlighted, with associated info including ‘Gardening Tips’, which pollinators they attract and which similar-looking non-native plant they can replace – extremely useful information to enable you to make a positive contribution to the environment.
Calendars cost R150 each and will be available from nurseries, conservancies and other outlets from Scottburgh to Port Edward. They make excellent gifts and can also be used to raise funds if bought in bulk. We appreciate our sponsors and everyone who supports us by buying the calendars.
