OPINION: Heartfelt thank you to Dr Kader and family

In a world where kindness often goes unnoticed, I want to highlight the good Samaritans among us.

On Tuesday this week, when I picked up my little one from Grade R, he ran towards me in tears.

The TA kindly informed me that he had complained of a fever just 10 minutes before pick-up, and they chose not to call since I was already on my way (which I completely understand).

As I held my son, he suddenly screamed that he needed to vomit. I quickly took him to a nearby grass patch, allowing him to relieve himself while I searched for tissues in my bag.

Just then, his best friend’s mom rushed over and insisted we follow her to her husband’s surgery in Gamalakhe. I hesitated at first, knowing how hectic her after-school schedule is.

To give some context – this incredible mom has been encouraging me to visit the surgery every time my child, or any of my family members fell ill, but for some reason, we never went.

Today, however, I was in urgent need of help, and I finally accepted her kind offer.

We arrived at a cosy and welcoming surgery, where she made sure we were comfortable, offered my little one water, and even fetched Coke from her car for him.

The nurses and assistants greeted us warmly, and then we met the doctor – her husband, Dr Altaaf Kader. He was most professional and gentle with my son, ensuring the jab was quick and painless.

Now, here’s what truly amazed me: the medication we received wasn’t just the usual fever and pain meds – they included Ibumol, lozenges, and quality antibiotics.

And when I asked to pay, both Dr Kader and his wife flat-out refused, simply because our boys are friends.

This isn’t a paid ad – just a genuine moment of gratitude. In a world where kindness often goes unnoticed, I want to highlight the good Samaritans among us.

If you’re ever in need of a great doctor, go to Gamalakhe, I can confidently say Dr Kader is an incredible choice.

Hats off to you, Dr Kader and family, both at home and at work. May you have a blessed Ramadan.
