BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning In – Help keep Scottburgh beautiful

Much effort is being made to keep the area clean.

The Scottburgh and surrounds team is thanked for its wonderful initiative in keeping Scottburgh beautiful. I’m personally proud of all who made the effort to help and our community is a better place because of all of you.

Clansthal Recycling has moved to Wednesdays, twice a month. Drop the recycling off at the old post-boxes near the Eskom offices close to the R102.
Drop off bottles, paper and cardboard, tins, plastic and tetrapacks (milk cartons). Sorting not necessary but must be clean. Dates as follows for 2025 collection dates: May 21, June 4 and 19, July 9 and 23.

Recycle for a cleaner Scottburgh/Park Rynie. Put your recycling out on Mondays in clear plastic bags or boxes. Plastic bottles and containers, paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars.
No polystyrene or dirty food boxes or clingwrap; rinse out glass jars and containers; no dirty or soiled paper. Tuesdays Park Rynie. Contact 083 3042553.

Collecting tops and tags for wheelchairs. These are collected in separate bags, ie: one packet for tops and one packet for bread tags. When packets are full, they can be dropped at Debra de Souza’s car only on a Wednesday, before 09:15 outside Relton, or handed to the recycling depot. It takes 2000kg of plastic milk and/or juice bottle lids, or 330kg of bread tags, to obtain a wheelchair.
The wheelchair is donated to a person in dire need. The tops and tags are sent up to Gauteng via Sue Martin, who collects them from Pennington and has been doing so for about eight years now. It keeps the plastic away from our beaches and ultimately out of the beautiful ocean.

Osisibethemba (Sisters of Hope) works with the rape crisis centre at GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh, blessing the less fortunate with clothes, toys, blankets, sweets and snacks, hygiene products (general toiletries, toothbrushes, soaps, feminine hygiene) and more. They gather on the first Thursday of every month at Relton Hall, Pennington. All donations are welcome and appreciated. Contact 076 2974457 or 083 3108479.

Fundraising golf day for Shaninlea Visser at Umdoni Park GC on Sunday, May 25. Contact 039 9751320.

The 8th annual Umdoni Classic is being played at Umdoni Park GC from July 11 to 13. For further information email: veni@umdonipark.com.
